GEM CUTTING :: Serving the Knoxville community since 1987, we began as importers and cutters of fine rough from east Africa including Tanzanite, Aquamarine, Emerald, Tourmaline, Rhodolite and Tsavorite Garnet. We provided recutting services to local jewelers who needed their customers’ chipped, broken, and scratched stones recut and polished.

At this time, the jewelry industry was overwhelmingly cutting poorly, emphasizing weight over the beauty that could be achieved by cutting a lighter stone to the angles that gave the highest light return. Our niché was faceting the most beautiful stone that could be cut from the rough.

By 1994 our business had grown exponentially and we opened our store in ‘the shops’ at Franklin Square in West Knoxville.

CUSTOMIZATION :: Today our business is based on adapting our jewelry to the customers needs, changes in metals, purity and color, gemstone and quality options to suit both their taste and budget.

When a design can’t be located from one of our fine vendors (the least expensive route), we start from scratch and manufacture using CAD/CAM technology. This allows the client to see the finished design as well as the wax before a commitment is made - it also allows for as many changes as are necessary to “tweak” the design to the customer’s vision.

CREDENTIALS :: Earl and Marsha have earned the Graduate Gemologist diploma from the Gemological Institute of America. Marsha holds the title Certified Gemologist, American Gem Society and must be tested and recertified annually. Our rigid adherence to strict ethical standards and a lifelong pursuit of excellence and integrity has earned Eckel & Co. membership in the prestigious American Gem Society and the most distinguished credentials offered by the jewelry industry.
As we celebrate our 16th year in Franklin Square we continue to provide beautiful jewelry and great service at competitive prices.
